Children’s Day
also known as “Bal Diwas” is celebrated every year in India on November 14, to commemorate the birth anniversary of India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru.
He was fondly, lovingly & popularly known as “Chacha Nehru” amongst children. He strongly believed that children are the foundation of a society and they should be provided with a nurturing environment to produce the talented leaders & flag bearers of future India.
Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru
Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru was born in Allabahad on November 14, 1889. He received his early education at home under private tutors. At the age of fifteen, he went to England and after two years at Harrow, joined Cambridge University where he took his tripos in Natural Sciences. He was later called to the Bar from Inner Temple. He returned to India in 1912 and plunged straight into politics. In India, he was inevitably drawn into the struggle for independence.
He was the first prime minister of independent India (1947–64). He died on May 27, 1964.
Pt. Ji said, "The children of today will make the India of tomorrow. The way we bring them up will determine the future of the country."
