Christmas is celebrated to remember the birth of Jesus Christ, who Christians believe is the Son of God. The name ‘Christmas’ comes from the Mass of Christ (or Jesus). A Mass service (which is sometimes called Communion or Eucharist) is where Christians remember that Jesus died for us and then came back to life

The origins of Christmas could be traced back to ancient Roman Saturnalia, a pagan festival of feasting and gift-giving. By the 4th century, the Church is said to have adopted December 25 as Jesus’s birth date to “christianize” these festivities.

In the Gospel of Luke, Joseph and Mary travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem in order to be counted for a census, and Jesus is born there and placed in a manger. Angels proclaim him a savior for all people, and three shepherds come to adore him.
