Guru Nanak Jayanti
Parkash Purab, also known as Guru Nanak Jayanti or Gurpurab, is a festival that celebrates the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the First Sikh Guru and Founder Of Sikhism.
It is a sacred festival for Sikhs that honours Guru Nanak’s life, achievements, and legacy. Sikhs believe that Guru Nanak’s teachings shaped the ideologies of Sikhism.
Parkash Purab is not just a celebration of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birth; it is a time for reflection, introspection, and spiritual renewal. Sikhs around the world gather in gurdwaras to participate in kirtan, listen to Katha, and engage in acts of seva.
Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, born on 15 April 1469 and departed on 22 September 1539, was the founder of Sikhism, a monotheistic religion that originated in the Punjab region of India. Revered as the first Guru, he shaped the core tenets of Sikhism, emphasising the oneness of God, equality of all people, and the importance of living a just and ethical life.
